Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

How this Evidence Map was generated

We searched Medline and EMBASE  via embase.com and heoro.com on 11 April 2020 for studies on adult, or acute, respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) published since 2020. The search strategy can be found on the "Search" sheet.

The search identified a total of 2,707 unique abstracts and clinical trial records, of which 486 were prioritised for inclusion in this Evidence Map. Details of the prioritisation approach are reported on the "Key" sheet.

The included abstracts have been  indexed to the following fields:

  • Diseases - the diseases assessed in the study, e.g. ARDS, SARS, COVID-19
  • Comorbidities - other conditions or problems affecting the population with ARDS
  • Locations - the geographical location of the study or, if not clear, the authors' locations.
  • Interventions - the interventions assessed in each study, where relevant.
  • Question - the research question to which the study is relevant. Details of the questions are on the "Key" sheet.
  • Study size - the number of participants with ARDS in the study.
  • Study methodology - the methodology used by the researchers e.g. RCT (randomised controlled trial), SLR (systematic literature review or pooled analyses), observational.
  • Subpopulation - the subjects of the research e.g. child, adult, caregiver, healthcare professional (HCP).
  • PRO tools - the PRO instruments cited in the abstract, where relevant. The full list is on the "PRO Tools and Abbreviations" sheet.

In addition the following publication date segmentations are used:

  • 2000 to 2001
  • 2002 to 2003
  • 2004 to 2005
  • 2006 to 2007
